Destan Pool in April

April 2026 is shaping up to be an great month at Destan Pool, Shropshire’s exclusive-hire carp fishery. As the spring sun begins to warm the waters of this secluded 1.5-acre gem, the resident “beasts” are waking up from their winter slumber, offering anglers a opportunity for a personal best.

If you’re planning a session at Destan Pool this April, here is everything you need to know to make your trip a success, from tactical advice to venue-specific rules.

April: The Season of Opportunity

April is a transitional month for carp. As water temperatures rise, fish naturally migrate toward the shallower areas of the pool to bask in the sunlight. At Destan Pool, this often means focusing your efforts around the Gate Swim and Back Bay, where depths sit between 3 and 4 feet.

However, don’t ignore the deeper sections near the Dam End (reaching up to 3.5 meters) if a late spring frost hits. The spring-fed nature of the pool ensures the water remains oxygenated and fresh, keeping the fish active even during temperature fluctuations.

The Stock:

Destan Pool is home to approximately 80 high-quality carp. While the majority are hard-fighting mirrors in the mid-to-high teens, the lake holds a significant number of fish over 20lb.

Top Tactics for April 2026

  1. Stealth is Your Secret Weapon: Destan is a small, intimate venue. The owners often say, “Be like a ninja.” Vibrations from heavy footsteps or loud bankside activity will spook fish in a 1.5-acre pool instantly.

  2. Bright and Visual: Since the water is often coloured in early spring, yellow or pink pop-ups are proven winners here. Krill-based baits or citrus-scented hookbaits stand out against the lakebed.

  3. The “Little and Often” Approach: The fish’s metabolism is still ramping up. Avoid heavy spodding. Instead, use small PVA bags of pellets  or a light scattering of crushed boilies to draw them in without overfeeding.

  4. Natural Baits: April is the start of the insect hatch season. Don’t be afraid to tip your boilie with a couple of real maggots or a piece of sweetcorn to add that extra bit of movement and visual appeal.

Essential Venue Rules & Logistics

Destan Pool is an exclusive hire only venue, meaning when you book, the lake is yours. To keep the fish in pristine condition, the fishery has strict but fair rules:

  • Nets, Mats, and Slings Provided: Do not bring your own. The fishery provides quality, disinfected equipment to prevent the spread of KHV.

  • Rig Requirements: Microbarb or barbless hooks only. Fixed leads and main line braid are strictly prohibited—running rigs or lead clips are the way to go.

  • No Nuts: All nut-based baits (Tiger nuts, peanuts, etc.) are banned. Stick to high-quality boilies and pellets.

  • Secure & Secluded: The site is fully fenced and gated, located a quarter-mile from the nearest road. It’s the ultimate “getaway” from the noise of modern life.

Plan Your Visit

With 6 maintained swims, Destan Pool comfortably accommodates 3 anglers (a 4th can be added but best for 3). Whether you’re looking for a 4-day midweek social or a full-week mission, you can check availability via their SwimView™ gallery or the virtual tour on .

2026 is here! What a winter for Destan Pool

My goodness its been a wet winter. The lake is full, the fields surrounding the lake are completely sodden. Unfortunately, the wind has taken down some of our trees which ended up in the lake. We have finally been able to remove them along with some other underwater snags!

We hope the weather improves and we can begin to welcome some of our guests new and old. We have plenty of space but bookings are now starting to increase as the weather warms up.

We look forward to seeing some of you this year. If your’e interested, pop onto swimbooker and check out our rates!

2023 – Warming up!

The weather is variable to say the least. However, at the first sign of a bit of warmth this week, the carp went on the march! The lake is springing to life and the wildlife abounds! If you are looking for a getaway for yourself and a couple of mates for a social fishing gathering, then give us the once

Plenty of free weekends this year if you are interested in a getaway from it all

We been away for a while. but now we are back with more fish!

Well, we been away from the web for a while due to holiday and various other reasons but we are back…. Over the last few weeks and weekends, its been hectic. Every weekend booked up and enjoyed by new and returning customers! Plenty of fish caught and a surprise or two …..2 sturgeon! They must be inhabitants of the pool from old. It is an old pool and has been for many years prior to our take over. We have no idea how old they are or whether this is their maximum size or not…Its a puzzle to us. They seem to have started showing now the weather is warmer. They look healthy enough!

Plenty of carp being caught from all swims and all methods but what with this weather!!! High pressure, low pressure, rain, wind , hail, sunshine and that was just yesterday! Fish don’t know whether they are coming or going.

We have also had aeration installed. Solar panels have appeared on the island to power up a pump at times of need. They run overnight and pretty quietly. So far so good!

We have also changed our weekday booking styles. You can now book 2 , 3 or 4 days stints in the week for those with more limited time. Unfortunately, at the moment, we can only deliver bait on a Monday and Friday to your swims …but we are working on it!

Looking forward to welcoming more guests over the coming summer! Still some slots available for those interested.

Signing off for now…

3rd Weekend – and more fish!

The third weekend was given over to our friends. They helped us net and remove the plethora of small roach and relocate them (legally!) to a new home not too far away.

They spent a warm weekend there with some minor spawning going on around them. This didnt stop them catching some cracking fish and these photographs are stunning.

All fish looked well and put on weight from stocking.

We look forward to welcoming them back soon!

2nd Weekend – More great guests.

Our second set of guests arrived on Friday evening. The weather was once again looking up. Bit of a breeze from the north and high pressure building. A fabulous spring evening!

The guys seem to have had a fantastic couple of days some high doubles and a 24lb and 26lb to round things off. The beasts seem to be piling on the pounds since stocking with the smallest ones gaining the fastest

Once again, The Queen of the lake remained elusive despite putting on another display for everyone. The 31lb beauty remains uncaught!

We look forward to seeing these guests again in the near future.

More guests this weekend! Hoping for another great weekend.

Opening Day!

Opening day came and went without a hitch. Our guests who grabbed the first booking almost as soon as we opened the site picked a beautiful weekend for fishing. In fact its was pretty good all round for whatever you were doing!

The sun shone, the swallows picked flies off the lake and the ghosties even paraded themselves around for all to see, sometimes at your feet. Teasing them to what they could catch. However, the 31Lber proved elusive despite his high visibility throughout the weekend.

That said, the guys had some entertaining sport including the landing of one of the bigger commons in the pool. Weighing in at 25Lb, it was the guys personal best.

The high pressure dominated the weather at the weekend and it remained gorgeous. Probably not ideal fishing conditions and they went off the feed on Saturday a little. However, further sport was had.

As none of these fish have been fished for before (Ive not fished it), with the exception of ghosties, they are a bit skittish we think. I think with hindsight, we think that stealth might be the order of the day. But hey, we all know how fishing can be….gloriously brilliant and extremely frustrating and everything in between!

Looking froward to the next guests to give the lake a bash!
